KOCHI: The failure of the Left Democratic Front (LDF) government in providing education, healthcare and other public amenities had subjected it to the ire of the public, said Mohsina Kidwai, AICC general secretary in charge of Kerala. Inaugurating the valedictory function of a two-day leadership camp organised by the Ernakulam District Congress Committee, she said the LDF rule was marked by non-performance, stagnation of infrastructure and deteriorating law and order situation. She said rampant corruption and internal fight among Ministers, senior functionaries of the CPI(M) and other constituencies of the LDF alliance had weakened the government. She said the camp would serve as a platform to draw up programmes in consultation with ordinary workers to expose the LDF Government before the public. She asked the party workers to propagate the achievements of the Union Government, such as the National Rural Employment Guarantee scheme and the Right to Information Act, at the grassroots level. Ms. Kidwai, who was on her first visit to the State after being put in charge of Kerala, said leadership camps played a significant role in building the party at the grassroots level. A propagandaUnion Minister for Overseas Indian Affairs Vayalar Ravi said here on Saturday that the noise being raised by the Left over the alleged breach of the Common Minimum Programme (CMP) was mere propaganda. Addressing the leadership camp, he said that the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance government at the Centre had not done anything to breach the contours of the CMP. Mr. Ravi said that the CMP was nothing but the election manifesto of the Congress party. Mr. Ravi said that Congress activists had the responsibility to create public awareness about the development programmes being carried out by the Centre.
