Two held for attack on journalist

Bangalore: The Ashok Nagar police on Friday arrested two software engineers employed by an IT major on the charge of beating up a reporter of The Hindu on Convent Road on Monday.

The arrested are Praveen Kumar of Hubli and Shank Deep Chakraborty of Kolkata. The two, both engineering graduates with a master’s degree in management, have confessed to beating up the reporter, Ayesha Matthan, Ulsoor Gate Assistant Comissioner of Police B.B. Ashok Kumar said.

The two were produced before the jurisdictional court on Friday and released on bail.

The two engineers, who were illegally riding a motorcycle on Convent Road footpath, threatened to knock down Ms. Matthan with their vehicle if she did not make way for them. Following an altercation, the two pushed her around, beat and kicked her, Mr. Ashok Kumar said.

On a complaint filed by Ms. Matthan, the Ashok Nagar police registered a case.
