NEW DELHI: A unique dialogue on federalism, “Sanjha Safar”, that will run parallel to the upcoming fourth International Conference on Federalism here at Vigyan Bhavan, will be held at the India Gate lawns beginning this Sunday. It will see participation by civil society organisations, development workers, social activists, panchayat members and leaders from several States. The public discussions will centre on the basic themes of the conference. Issues of good governance will also be debated. Some of the issues that will come up for discussion are: “Gram Sabhas in action, including governance issues, customs and central laws of tribal areas”; “Women sarpanches of Mewat: Seeking ideas from others for better governance”; “Water and ecology issues”; “Jan Sunwais from Gram Pradhans of Himachal Pradesh”; “Seed and irrigation issues”; “Bal Chaupal and children’s views on the future”. Other issues to be tackled include “Food Security”, “Integrated Medicine” and “Media coverage of governance issues”. Several eminent representatives from civil society organisations are expected to participate in the four-day event. They include Vandana Shiva, Aruna Roy, Anupam Mishra, Rajendra Singh, Dr. Naresh Trehan, Yogendra Yadav and Sunita Narain.
