Foundation stone to be laid next January Classes at the new IIT in Medak urged from July NEW DELHI: The Centre has cleared the setting up of a 15 million-tonne refinery of the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Ltd. at Kakinada. The foundation stone for this Rs. 15,000-crore project will be laid in January next year after the necessary environment clearance is secured. AssuranceAn assurance to this effect was given to Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy by Union Petroleum Minister Murli Deora on Saturday. Besides, Mr. Deora agreed to sanction three lakh new LPG connections to the State this fiscal. However, the Chief Minister told reporters later that he had requested the Petroleum Minister to increase the number of new connections allowed to the State. Classes at IITDuring the day, Dr. Reddy also met Union Human Resource Development Minister Arjun Singh and urged him to start classes at the new Indian Institute of Technology in Medak from July 2008. Though the complex is yet to be constructed, the Chief Minister’s contention was that land had been allotted and temporary structures could be put up in time for the next academic session. The Chief Minister also sought an Indian Institute of Management for Andhra Pradesh at Vizag and an Indian Institute of Science Education and Research at Tirupati. Besides, the State has asked the Centre to extend the mid-day meal scheme for students up to Class X and convert the Yogi Vemana University in Kadapa into a Central varsity. Dr. Reddy also met Union Minister for Science & Technology Kapil Sibal and urged him to scan every tract of land in Andhra Pradesh so that the State Government could remain alert to possibilities of pests and diseases through weekly reports. Also, the State Government has put in a request for setting up a National Institute of Animal Bio-Technology at Hyderabad.
