An Idol show shines with skills

People from all walks of life participate in contest


Thirteen singers chosen after two selection rounds

Winner will record a single with a professional studio

PUDUCHERRY: It didn’t rain during the evening and the pool-side made a comfortable venue for the first Pondicherry Idol show held at The Promenade recently.

The event saw people from all walks of life, including school students, a teacher, a yoga therapist, a songwriter and persons working in private concerns, participate.

The 13 singers who took part were chosen after two rounds of selection. Their song-and-dance routines made for an entertaining evening.

Lot of fun

“We wanted to bring some fun to Puducherry and help talented people come out into the open,” said Jacqueline Kapur of Casablanca, which is organising the show.

Some of the participants included Vibha, an entrepreneur and yoga therapist, Aurotaranti Maiolini, a teacher and a songwriter, Adirouba Lemorien, a singer, R. Tiras Moresha, who loves to listen to music, play the keyboard, write poetry and play football and S.J Maitreyi, a student of Standard VII of St.Joseph of Cluny School, who has been learning Carnatic music for the past 3 years.

The panel of judges included record producer and drum player Manosh, Tapan, a singer and music teacher, Suresh, a drummer and Casablanca’s event manager Sandrine.

Jesse, a stage professional, who hosted the show, helped enliven the ambience. Of the 13, six participants would drop out of the show after public voting and selection of the judges.

Seven contestants will make it to the next round. . The finals, to be held in December, will see the last four contestants fight it out for the title. The winner gets an opportunity to record a single with a professional recording studio from Puducherry.
