Staff Reporter

BHUBANESWAR: A young recruit of IT major Infosys died at Chandrabhaga near Konark, about 45 km from here on Sunday afternoon when she was drowned in Bay of Bengal by a sudden surge of sea waves.

The victim has been identified as Alka Singhal, a 22-year-old girl from Ludhiana of Punjab.

Holidaying

Alka along with another 25 employees of Infosys, Bhubaneswar, had gone to Konark and Chandrabhaga beach for holidaying on Sunday.

“The incident took place at about 1 p.m.

The group was at about 30 feet distance away from the shoreline.

Everybody was watching the group enjoying their time. Suddenly sea surged and took the victim inside,” Sanatan Panigrahi, Inspector-in-Charge of Konark Police Station, said.

He said fishermen and boatmen entered the violent sea to rescue the girl.

After about 30 minutes, Alka was detected unconscious, police inspector said.

Other Infosys employees, who accompanied Alka, rushed her to the District Headquarters Hospital at Puri where doctors declared that they received her dead.

Alka was working as Assistant Engineer (Testing) at the Infosys, Bhubaneswar.
