Two killed in road accident

REDDIGUDEM (Krishna dist): Two persons were killed and two others escaped with injuries when a palm tree fell on a moving auto-rickshaw at Srirampur village near here on Sunday.

The Reddigudem police identified the victims as Gugulotu Nageswara Rao, 25, an auto-rickshaw driver and a resident of Kummarakuntla in A. Konduru mandal, and Tadepalli Surya Rao, 21, a student of Patarepudi village in A. Konduru mandal. The accident occurred when Nageswara Rao was driving the auto-rickshaw from Vissannapet to A. Konduru with two passengers on board. The road side tree was being felled by a few farmers. The mishap occurred immediately after the auto-rickshaw crossed a blind curve. As Surya Rao was sitting next to the driver, both of them died on the spot.

Suicide bid

Unable to bear the alleged harassment of a man, a 19-year-old girl Chittibomma Mahalakshmi set herself ablaze at her home in Pasupubotlavaripalem near Gudlavalleru on Sunday. She was battling for her life at Gudivada Government Hospital, where her condition was said to be critical. The girl said in a statement to the police that she doused herself with kerosene and set herself ablaze when her family members went out for work.
