Training in inland fisheries for women

Belgaum: A two-month training programme in inland fisheries will be organised exclusively for women in the B.R. Project area in Bhadravati of Shimoga district.

According to a release here on Saturday, the training will commence from November 26. The programme is restricted to women from the following districts: Bidar, Gulbarga, Raichur, Koppal, Bijapur, Bellary, Belgaum, Dharwad, Uttar Kannada, Haveri, Gadag, Davangere, Chitradurga, Shimoga, Chikamagalur and Bagalkot.

Those between the age of 18 and 40 who have passed SSLC are eligible. Those interested can apply in the prescribed application form to the Assistant Director, Fisheries Training Centre, B.R. Project, Bhadravati taluk, Shimoga - 577115 on or before November 12. To receive application forms by post, a stamped self-addressed envelop (9x4 inches) should be sent to the centre, it said.

Official sources in the Fisheries Department told The Hindu here that fish culture was gaining importance because of several advantages associated with it.
