Tamil Nadu Minister’s call for closer ties

Kochi: Tamil Nadu Minister for Social Welfare Poongothai said here on Sunday that Kerala and Tamil Nadu should be on the vanguard of the social justice movement and become examples for implementing social welfare programmes in the country.She was speaking after inaugurating a function launching Kalainjar Narpani Mandram and a seminar on art and politics here. At a time when the process of globalisation was gaining momentum, people of India should overcome all differences and become one, she added. She said that the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi was an excellent human being and a statesman who worked tirelessly for the welfare and uplift of the poor and disabled. She said that Tamil Nadu was the first State to launch special programmes for the disabled and that the government had allotted Rs.1,500 crore for social welfare activities.
