Road accidents kill and maim many people every year. Tamil Nadu is notorious for road accidents. Yet no serious action has been taken by authorities concerned to prevent fatal accidents which are increasing. A separate ministry should be established to chalk out ways and means to eliminate traffic accidents.

Good idea
Minister for School Education Thangam Thennarasu deserves to be congratulated for his idea of bringing celebrities to government schools to boost students’ morale. Their education, experience and expertise etc will certainly be very helpful during the interactions. However, I want the brand ambassadors to be scientists, scholars, sports personalities, saints, bishops, doctors, social workers, journalists, musicians etc and certainly not politicians and cine stars.

Rain harvest
Despite scanty rain, Salem managed to meet its water requirements well in the last two summers thanks to saving of rain water. Now when we have torrential rain, water goes waste. May I remind the Salem Municipal Corporation Commissioner about the proposal on rain water harvest? Proper planning at the right time will ease water scarcity.

Banking woes
I am a customer of a leading non-nationalised bank. Whenever I want the bank update my passbook it does not oblige on the pretext that there is shortage of staff or the computer is down. Perhaps the bank staff consider this an additional work. Nationalised banks are, however, better in this respect.
