SHAMSHABAD (Ranga Reddy dist): The BJP on Sunday conducted a road show along the Bangalore highway from here to Jadcherla in Mahabubnagar district demanding a minimum support price (MSP) of Rs. 1,000 a quintal for paddy and various other rates for different agricultural products.
The party’s State president Bandaru Dattatreya led several vehicles of his followers along the route. He got into an open-top jeep for short distances where people had gathered.
Addressing a roadside meeting here, Mr. Dattatreya said the disinclination of Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy to ensure an MSP of Rs. 1,000 to paddy farmers was exposed by his refusal to lead an all-party delegation to Delhi to persuade the Prime Minister on the issue. Mr. Dattatreya accused the Congress Government of making a false promise to implement Pranahita – Chevella link project for the benefit of local farmers. There was no sign of the project so far, he said.
He announced that former BJP president M. Venkaiah Naidu will lead a similar road show from Ramagundam to Peddapally in Karimnagar district on Monday.
Mr. Dattatreya, who was received by farmers en route, got into one of the bullock carts that were lined up at Palmakula. They presented him a garland of paddy sheaves, cotton lint and green leaves.
