BANGALORE: Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council H.K. Patil has appealed to Governor Rameshwar Thakur to direct the Gadag district administration to take up immediate relief measures in the flood-affected areas of the district. In a letter to the Governor, Mr. Patil requested the Governor to direct the district administration to immediately rehabilitate the flood-affected people in the villages of Hole Alur, Gadgoli, Hole Mannur, Kuruvina Koppa, Amargol Menasagi, Gulagandhi, Megur, Bopalapur, Hole Adagali, Basarakoda, BS Beleri, Hunagundi, Benehala, Ilullur, Asuti, Karamadi, Malawada, YS Iladagali, Yavagalla, Sandigawada and Arahunasi. Mr. Patil said the villagers and farmers who had lost standing crop and their cattle were living on roadsides. He said that over 10,000 people in those villages had been affected. Stating that the rehabilitation work taken up so far had not being satisfactory, Mr. Patil said the district administration had not risen to the occasion and failed to initiate proper steps to help the people who were in distress. He faulted the survey carried out by the district authorities. Mr. Patil suggested immediate release of funds for housing, compensation for crop destruction and shifting of people living in sheds to proper dwellings.
