TIRUPUR: Highways Minister M.P. Saminathan on Saturday sought the cooperation of various government agencies to widen the roads in and around Tirupur.
Reviewing the progress of road works under the Rs.70-crore special allotment for widening and strengthening of highways in Tirupur, Mr. Saminathan asked the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board officials to shift the over 500 electricity poles to road margins in order to facilitate the widening of the road. Widening of Avanashi Road, Palladam Road, Kangeyam Road, Uthukuli Road, Dharapuram Road and Mangalam Road was getting delayed. The TNEB officials told the Minister that their work was getting delayed because of shortage of poles.
He asked the TNEB, Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage Board, and officials from Tirupur, Velampalayam and Nallur Municipalities to finish all the works by December.
Mr. Saminathan said the road widening works should be overt by March.
Mr. Saminathan asked highway officials to speed up the preparation of estimates to construct railway overbridges at Koolipalayam and Anaipalayam and invite tenders at the earliest.
K. Subbarayan, MP, C. Govindasamy, MLA, Municipal Chairman K. Selvaraj among others attended.
