Hindu Aikyavedi to stage dharna

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Hindu Aikyavedi will stage a demonstration and dharna in front of the Travancore Devaswom Board office here on November 12 in protest against the decision to Webcast the Ayyappa idol at Sabarimala and the award of contracts to make ‘prasadam’ at the temple.

M. Radhakrishnan, secretary of the Aikyavedi, alleged that there was corruption in the award of contract for supply of ‘aravana’ and other items to the temple. The contract was awarded to a non-Hindu facing revenue recovery proceedings as part of a conspiracy to destroy the sanctity of the temple. The decision to show the idol on the Internet was taken without the permission of the tantri and disregarding tantric stipulations.

He demanded that board president C.K. Guptan be removed from his post and an inquiry ordered into the allegations.
