dated November 5, 1957: Pakistan situation

Dr. Khan Sahib, President of the Republican Party, told a group of pressmen in Peshawar on November 2 that there was not a semblance of democracy in Pakistan and “the so-called leaders who seek shelter under the name of democracy are really afraid of introducing it in the country because none of them will retain his position when real democracy takes the place of the present mock democracy.” Dr. Khan Sahib, who for the second time in six months was suggesting the formation of a “revolutionary council” to clean up politics and public life in the country said; “These leaders are also afraid of my suggestion for the setting up a council.” He reiterated his view that “peaceful revolution by means of setting up a revolutionary council alone can bring stability into the country’s politics.”
