dated November 5, 1957: Merit awards

The King of Sweden bestowed medals of merit on five members of the Red Cross organisation, including three Indians, for having furthered the cause of the humanitarian movement at a function in New Delhi on November 1, organised by Mr. Justice Emil Sandstorm, President of the Swedish Red Cross Society. Rajkumari Amrit Kaur, Chairman of the Indian Red Cross and president of the present International Red Cross Conference and Sardar Balwant Singh Puri, Secretary-General of the Indian Red Cross were given the gold medal of merit while Mr. B.M. Jolly, Deputy Secretary of the Indian Red Cross, received a medal of merit.
