VIRUDHUNAGAR: The Minister for Backward Classes, K.K.S.S.R. Ramachandran, has planned to provide training for youth belonging to backward and most backward classes, especially rural girls, to make them employable.
Addressing a gathering at a special grievance redressal meeting held at Aruppukottai here on Saturday, he said that he would review the functioning of the department, for which he was made the Minister recently, and study the scope for providing help to them.
The girls would be provided training in nursing, catering and computer operation. Besides, they would be trained to become air-hostesses, the Minister said.
Stating that there were only 41 hostels run by the department in the district, which was very less in number when compared to other districts in the State, Mr. Ramachandran said that he would try to increase the number. All efforts would be taken to provide loans to minorities for their economic development, the Minister added. He handed over benefits worth Rs.24.49 lakh to 450 persons under various schemes. The Minister received petitions from 2,090 persons during the special grievance day meeting for residents of Aruppukottai taluk. The petitions would be processed and benefits given to all eligible candidates within 15 days, the Collector, V. Chandrasekaran said.
The next special camp for the disabled would be held for Kariyapatti panchayat union on November 20 and 21. The district administration had prepared 2,000 house site pattas that would be distributed soon. Over 10,000 applications seeking identity cards under the Farmers’ Social Protection Scheme would also be processed soon.
