KOCHI: Ernakulam’s Thomas Kurien, the top seed, comfortably beat district-mate Joy T. Antony and won the men’s singles title in the 38th Seshasayee all-Kerala badminton tournament which concluded at the FACT Udyogamandal Club on Sunday. Kozhikode’s Aparna Balan won the women’s title after her opponent Nima Lakshmi conceded the final towards the end of the first game with an injury. National champions Sanave Thomas and Rupesh Kumar bagged the men’s doubles title while Aparna Balan and M. Sruthi defeated sisters Merit and Miral George, the State champions, in the women’s doubles final. D.N. Pradhan, Finance Director, FACT Ltd, gave away the prizes. The results (finals): Men: Thomas Kurian (ONGC, Ekm) bt Joy T. Antony (CPT, Ekm) 21-7, 21-10. Doubles: Rupesh Kumar & Sanave Thomas (Ekm) bt Thomas Kurian & V. Diju (Ekm) 15-21, 21-15, 26-24. Women: Aparna Balan (Kzd) bt Nima Lakshmi (Tsr) 19-10 (retired). Doubles: Aparna Balan & M. Sruthi (Kzd) bt Merit George & Miral George (Tsr) 21-14, 21-5. Mixed doubles: Aparna Balan & V. Diju bt Rupesh Kumar & Miral George 21-8, 21-7. Veterans singles: Roy Kuriakose (RSC) bt K.J. Roy (Aluva) 21-10, 18-21, 21-10. Doubles: John of Matha (Udyl) & Clifflend Mendez (Tsr) bt Roy Kuriakose & Percy Joseph (Ekm) 21-17, 21-7.
