Lohit Urs-Moosa triumph

Bangalore: The team of Lohit Urs and navigator Moosa Sheriff emerged champion in the JK Tyres Prosports rally’s professional class segment that concluded at Chikmagalur on Sunday afternoon.

Lohit Urs and Moosa Sheriff topped with a penalty of 1.29 minutes while Kiran and Pradeep secured the second spot.

In the novice class, Sujay and Chidanand gained the top spot, with a penalty of 4.06m.

The 534km long rally concluded at the Vasanthcool Estate in Chikmagalur.

The results:

Professional class: 1. Lohit Urs/ Moosa Sheriff (navigator), Penalties: 1.29 min; 2. Kiran/ Pradeep, 1.57m; 3. Logeshwaran/ Senthil, 3.38min; 4. Arvind/ Chandrashekar, 7.31m; 5. Ravindra Kumar/ Rathan 10.39m.

Novice class: 1. Sujay/ Chidanand, 4.06m; 2. Manjunath/ Mustafa, 5.51m; 3. Anees Sait/ Shiva Kumar 23.42m; 4. Prashanth/ Ashok Kare, 38.46m.

BSNL posts two wins

BSNL scored two victories on Sunday in the State ‘A’ division volleyball league at the L.B. Shastri First Grade College floodlit court, Bangalore.

In the morning session the BSNL outfit outspiked Jindal Steel Works (JSW) 25-18, 25-20, 24-26, 25-20 and came back later in the evening to trounce Sports Authority of India (SAI) in straight games at 25-22, 25-21, 25-18.

Former champion MEG too had it easy against Sports Hostel in the morning session winning on a canter at 25-16, 25-13, 25-12.

ITI outplayed SAI without dropping a set in another tie. ITI won 25-16, 25-18, 25-19.

Saturday’s results:

MEG bt SAI 25-20, 22-25, 25-13, 25-18; BEL bt Sports Hostel 25-15, 25-22, 25-18.

Laurel for Lourdes

Lourdes Central School (Mangalore) won the championship in under-14 category in National CBSE chess championship 2007- 08 organised by Modern School, Nanganallur, Chennai from October 29 to November 3.

The team comprising Nihal Manjunath (capt), Adith Jagadish, Yashas Salian, Rammohan Bhandari and Akash Harendranath scored 19.5 points in six rounds, according to a press release issued here on Sunday.

This is a maiden major chess title in CBSE chess events for a Mangalorean team.
