Drainage system

The Poonamallee bus stand is under renovation. Hence, to catch the buses, the commuters have to virtually stand on the road because both sides of the road are filled with rainwater. The water stagnation is attributed to the lack of proper drainage system.

I request the authorities concerned to address this problem immediately.

Road-digging

The Chennai Corporation, which permits agencies such as the CMWSSB, the TNEB, the BSNL, to dig roads for carrying out improvement works, should also fix a deadline to promptly level the dug-up portions and initiate further action to ensure uninterrupted and safe movement of vehicular and pedestrian traffic.

For instance, the busy and congested Konnur High Road in Ayanavaram remains unsafe because of unfilled trenches on either sides for months together. Moreover, the vehicles including MTC buses plying on this road get stuck in the pits resulting in traffic snarls.

Will the authorities mitigate the sufferings?

Display timings

This refers to the difficulty experienced by all commuters.

The city buses at bus stands, such as those at T. Nagar, Guindy Industrial Estate, do not display starting timings.

For example, three 45B buses line up at a time in the Guindy bus stand. People sit in the first bus. But suddenly the third bus starts moving, making the people from the stationary buses get down with great difficulty and rush to catch the moving bus.

This is an everyday affair at all bus stands in the city, which requires an immediate attention from the MTC authorities.

Lack of buses

People living in and around Kunrathur and Thirumudivakkam are the worst affected as they have no MTC bus linking the two places.

I request the authorities to take note of this problem and operate buses between Kunrathur and Thirumudivakkam.

Water-logging

The residents of Rangasayee Street, Perambur, falling under Ward 054, Area 082, suffer from water-logging and drainage problems. Repeated requests to the Corporation to clear the drain before the onset of the northeast monsoon have gone unheeded.

Owing to the incessant rain, water starts entering the houses. Also, because of drainage problems, we are not able to use toilets.

During the previous northeast monsoon, water entered our houses, bringing with it insects and snakes, as also the difficulties of getting food, water and compensation.

It is, therefore, requested that the authorities address this problem on war-footing.

Soiled currency notes

Central Government pensioners and others are receiving their pension payments through nationalised banks, as per the laudable arrangement put in place by Finance Minister P. Chidambaram some years ago.

However, it is a pity that nowadays, the pensioners, who receive their money through nationalised banks, are given overused and soiled currency notes in 10-rupee and 50-rupee denominations. It is more shocking to see that out of the bundled currency notes (readied for re-cycling purposes), 10 or 20 notes are invariably torn, or worn-out, or patched up with a thin cellulose paper.

Though the nationalised banks make a tall promise to replace the invalid notes, when re-presented to them, with good ones, it will not be practical every pensioner to run to the bank whenever they receive soiled notes, for health and private reasons.

Even if a hapless pensioner seeks new notes at least for some portion of his cash, his request is outright rejected by the bank saying that there are no new notes at all.

Willl the Government Department concerned does earnestly something ?.

Clash of exam dates

I am doing final-year postgraduation. The TNPSC has announced that Group-I examinations will be conducted on 16-12-2007. On the same day, the UGC also conducts NET examinations. Students who aspire to take both the examinations cannot do so.

So, I request the TNPSC to change the Group-I examination and put it off to some other day, for the benefit of such students.

Lack of amenities in burial ground

Though a big cremation/burial ground exists at Pammal, it lacks basic amenities.

(1) The handpump is useful only during rainy days and during summer, becomes useless. (2) There is no separate place for bathing. Those who perform the last rites have to take bath near the handpump in the open. As a result, water stagnates, causing inconvenience to others. (3) There is no lighting arrangement inside the ground. (4) No hygienic condition prevails inside the ground.

The poor hygienic condition is also a threat to those who reside within the vicinity. (5) The bodies are burnt by using wood, cowdung cakes, etc. which is causing environmental pollution. Hence, there is a need for electric crematorium or a gasifier crematorium. (6) At present, only one body can be burnt. During the rainy reason, even a single body cannot be burnt, as the entire ground will be under the cover of water.

The existing place where the body is burnt needs to be elevated to avert inundation.

Will the authorities concerned look into this matter and do the needful?
