BANGALORE: An alert neighbour helped the police foil an attempt by two persons to burgle a house on Malleswaram 8th Main on Sunday. The police said the neighbour spotted two men trying to gain entry to the house of Krishnamurthy on 13th Cross around 2.30 a.m. and alerted the police control room, which in turn informed the jurisdictional Malleswaram police. Sub Inspector Sachidanandamurthy and Assistant Sub Inspector B.V. Basavaraju went to the spot with six other policemen. The two, who were hiding near the overhead tank, were spotted trying to jump to the adjoining house in a bid to escape. When the policemen closed in, one of them threw an iron rod at Mr. Basavaraju, who managed to swerve and fire in the air. The policemen chased and caught Raj Bahadur (22), a native of Nepal who works in the city as a security guard. His companion escaped. The police are interrogating Bahadur to find out whether he is involved in any other criminal cases. They are also searching for his accomplice. RobbedOn Saturday, another person became the target of robbery by those offering lift in their cars. Shamshuddin, a footpath vendor, hitched a ride in a car to go to Arasinakunte. But the car occupants went past the destination and assaulted Shamshuddin before snatching Rs. 1,500 in cash and his mobile phone from him. When they parked the car by the roadside after hearing a vehicle with a siren following them, Shamshuddin jumped out of the vehicle and rushed to the nearby Peenya police station to register a complaint. The Peenya police have transferred the case to Nelamangala police. MurderThe Indiranagar police on Saturday arrested a 38-year-old plumber after he reportedly admitted to stabbing his wife in Motappanapalya. The police said Govindaraju, the accused, who came home drunk, quarrelled with his wife Sampangamma and then stabbed her. A security guard of a jewellery shop who heard Sampangamma’s screams called the police. The Indiranagar police registered a case of murder. BurglaryA policeman’s house was burgled in Kengeri New Town police station limits on Sunday. A police constable Ramu, who works in traffic planning section, and his wife, Dhanalakshmi, reside in the ‘F’ block of the police quarters. On Saturday, Dhanalakshmi, who works in Kempegowda Institute of Medical Sciences, left for night duty, while Ramu went to his mother’s house. When both returned in the morning, they found their house broken into and jewellery, cash and other valuables valued at Rs. 1 lakh missing. The Kengeri New Town police have registered a case.
