Sampige Road loop to be thrown open to public today BANGALORE: It will be some relief for motorists going towards Malleswaram 18th Cross from Majestic and Seshadripuram from Monday. This stretch of Sampige Road, which had been closed for public use by the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) for facilitating work on the Malleswaram grade separator, will be thrown open on Monday. Sources in the BBMP said work on the box portion of the grade separator was almost complete and that the Sampige Road loop is ready for use now. “This 60-metre stretch of Sampige Road has been strengthened with deck slab concrete. Earlier, vehicles had to take a diversion and pass through Mohemmadan Block to go towards 18th Cross. Now they can use the Sampige Road,” the sources said. Pointing out that work on the entire facility will be completed by February, the sources said Malleswaram MLA M.R. Seetharam will inaugurate the strengthened road on Monday. Work on the Rs. 16-crore Malleswaram grade separator started in May 2006 and it was to be completed by November 2007. But work had come to a standstill for five months following protests by residents and civic groups, who contended that there was no need for a grade separator there. After the agitators were convinced, work resumed in December 2006 and the deadline was revised to February, the sources added.
