CHARLA (Khammam dist): IG of Police ( Dantewada) Rajinder Kumar Vij said the spurt in the Maoist activities owed to the fact that the reach of the administration was limited in Bastar region. He arrived in Charla with a host of official including the Chhattisgarh AGP intelligence A. K. Srivastav and Superintendent of Police ( Bijapur) Ratan Lala Dangi in a helicopter to take stock of the situation in the villages adjacent to the border of the two states. They also held a meeting with the Khammam Superintendent of Police D. S. Chouhan and other senior officials in the Department for one hour. Later talking to media persons, he said the Chhattisgarh police were learning a great deal from every incident of Maoist-sponsored violence. The State would be strengthening the police by giving the department the required men and materials. “We are redesigning the structures of police stations and updating the training modules”, he said. Training to be improvedEven the basic training programme given to the special task force (STF) men at the Jungle warfare school a Kanker was also being improved upon. Admitting many of the areas in the region were poorly connected, he said the Public works department was making efforts to improve the road communications. He said some 1000 STF men were being inducted newly. Ten battalions of the CRPF men were already in Bastar region and they were tasked to combating the Maoists along with the State police. We have asked for more forces and it request under consideration. Both Bijapur and Dantewada districts of Bastar were under special package and they would merit sanction of reinforcements. He said Chhattisgarh enjoyed good cooperation from Andhra Pradesh in the tackling the Maoist menace. The Joint operations would be stepped soon.
