GLAD to organise competitions for children

VIJAYAWADA: Growth Leading to All round Development (GLAD), a voluntary organisation floated by Lagadapati Rajagopal, MP, will celebrate the Children’s Day on November 14 at Indira Gandhi Municipal Stadium with over 25,000 school children from various schools in and around Vijayawada taking part in several events, according to Samanthapudi Narasaraju, corporator and member of the organising committee.

Speaking to mediapersons on Sunday, Mr. Raju said GLAD had been celebrating Gandhi Jayanthi on October 2 and Children’s Day on November 14 every year in a big manner by involving school children in several competitions in sports, culture and literary segments.

“Mr. Rajagopal’s ‘Pragathi-Purogathi’ yatra in all wards is also concluding on November 14. AICC secretary in-charge of AP Iqbal Singh and former minister M. Satyanarayana Rao will grace the occasion. The festivities will take place from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.,” Mr. Raju said.

Sports events

As a part of the festivities, the organisation would be conducting sports events in kabaddi, volleyball, throw ball and tennikoit, both for boys and girls, from November 5 to 7 at IGMC Stadium from 9 a.m. “Athletic events such as 100-metre and 200-metre sprint, shot-put, javelin throw and long jump will also be held,” he detailed.
