District level hockey tournament was held recently at Thanjavur. Government Boys Higher Secondary School at Mariammankoil got the first place. Karanthai Umamaheswaranar Higher Secondary School, Melaulur Government Higher Secondary school, St.Antony’s Higher Secondary School and Kamala Subramaniam Matriculation Higher Secondary School participated in the tournament. Balakumaram Memorial Cup was presented to the Mariammankoil School team.

The second place went to Government Boys Higher Secondary School at Membalam and Kamalasubramaniam Matriculation Higher Secondary school came third. Physical education teacher of Karanthai Umamaheswaranar Higher Secondary School G. Rathnasababathy distributed the prizes.

TELC Higher Secondary School, Pudukottai, in connection with its 150th anniversary conducted a Pudukottai education district level inter higher secondary and high school sports meet recently. Superintendent of Police Kapilkumar C. Saratkar was the chief guest at the valediction and he distributed prizes to the winners of various events. Chief Educational Officer S. Chellam, Regional Inspector of Physical Education M. R. Rajendran, School Correspondent Rev. Sukarno, Headmaster, Rajasekar and the Physical Education Director, Sasikumar felicitated the winners.

Pudukottai Innerwheel Club conducted competitions for the students of the Rajagopalapuram Municipal High School in Pudukottai town in connection with the official visit of Innerwheel District Chairperson Ruhirani Ramasubramaniam to the club. Ms. Ramasubramaniam presented prizes to the winners and uniforms to the poor students. Innerwheel Club president S. Anuradha presided over the function.

District-level science exhibition was held at Mount Zion Matriculation Higher Secondary School in Pudukottai recently.

A number of students participated and explained the principles of their exhibits.

Chief Educational Officer S. Chellam and the Inspector of Matriculation Schools Mundaiyan, who visited the exhibition, enquired about the scientific principles of exhibits prepared by the students and commended their efforts.

As part of observance of ‘Local Administration Day,’ the Kaikurichi village panchayat in the district organised elocution, essay-writing and singing competitions in which 40 students of Panchayat Union Middle School in Kaikurichi and Panchayat Union Elementary school in Vijayaragunathapuram participated.

Kaikurichi village panchayat president Rajalakshmi Gunasekaran distributed prizes to the winners in various competitions.

She said that the competition helped bring out the talents of rural students.

It also created awareness among the school pupils about the role and responsibilities of local bodies.

Vijayaragunathapuram Panchayat Union School headmaster Arumugam was among those who offered felicitations.

Competitions for school students on the functioning of local bodies was held in all the 322 village panchayats in Perambalur district in connection with Local Administration Day recently. District Collector Anil Meshram distributed prizes to the winners of the competitions conducted by Yesanai and Keezhakkarai panchayats.

Assistant Director of Panchayats M. Muthusamy, Yesanai and Keezhakkarai panchayat presidents Muthusamy and Sivalingam respectively offered felicitations.

A large number of students displayed models on various topics at the annual science exhibition at Srinivasa Rao Higher Secondary School, Thiruvaiyaru in Thanjavur district recently.

The exhibition was declared open by school Headmaster N. Rajendran in the presence of Assistant Headmasters S. Ravi, R. G. Raghavan and R. Guru.

The students had displayed over 150 models on the functioning of satellite, greenhouse effect, bank security, harnessing solar energy, global warming, paddy transplantation methods, sewage water treatment methods, nurseries etc.

Apart from school students, parents and locals visited the exhibition. School secretary S. Ranjan Gopal, management committee president R. Dharmanandan, Parent-Teachers’ Association president G. Sivaprakasam, PG teachers K. Ravichandran and B. Anandaraman commended the students who had presented the best models.
