Lucknow: The Lucknow Bench of the Allahabad High Court on Monday fixed November 14 for hearing a petition of Bollywood icon Amitabh Bachchan in a land dispute case. A single bench of Justice A N Verma fixed the date on the request of the State Government saying chief standing counsel D K Upadhyay was sick and unable to attend the court’s proceedings. The court is hearing a writ petition filed by Bachchan challenging the order of Faizabad additional commissioner quashing the allotment of a farmland in Daulatpur village of Barabanki district to the actor during the previous Samajwadi Party regime. Bachchan, in an apparent bid to wriggle out of the controversy, had abandoned his claim over the land and filed an affidavit in the Lucknow Bench of the High Court on October 12. The actor had abandoned his claim over the land after the court was informed that the Daulatpur village panchayat would not launch criminal prosecution against Bachchan if he forgoes his claim over the plot.- PTI
