Madikeri
200 rallies, 55 programmes to be held Rally on Saturday to commemorate 25 years of SIO Madikeri: The Students Islamic Organisation (SIO) of India will highlight lacunae in the education system at programmes to be organised on the occasion of its silver jubilee celebrations. FocusProgrammes with special focus on the commercialisation of education would be held, E.M. Mohammad Rafi, convener of the Kodagu unit of the organisation has said. Speaking to presspersons here on Monday, he said that SIO would organise special programmes with emphasis on quality education at Gulbarga University on November 16. Regional student conventions would also be held at the National College grounds in Gulbarga on November 17, Anjuman Islam College grounds in Dharwad on November 18, Ambedkar Bhavan in Bangalore on November 19 and Nehru maidan in Mangalore on November 21. More than 200 rallies, 55 programmes in the universities and 70 student conventions would be held across the country on November 25. RallyThe SIO would take out a rally here on November 10 to observe 25 years of its existence. The State Government should provide quality education to all its citizens, he said. The “colonial” system of education was still being followed in the country, and had been responsible for all prevalent ills in the system, he added. The student community had lost direction and purpose and the SIO aims at setting them right, Mr. Rafi stated. CampaignsThe New Delhi-based SIO had organised campaigns against globalisation, dowry, obscenity, cyber crimes and immorality across the country in the last 25 years. During the silver jubilee celebrations here, it will conduct a student rally and jatha. Stress would be laid on the various lacunae in the education system that had resulted in administrative corruption, Mr. Rafi said. Office-bearers of the Kodagu unit of the SIO Afsal and Touseef were present.
