Farmers happy with new maize seed

They have found the NAC 6004 variety disease free and high yielding



Understanding concepts: Lalitha, a scientist, elaborating on various aspects of maize seed NAC 6004 to farmers of Mallikarjunapura village in Belur taluk near Hassan on Monday.

HASSAN: The University of Agriculture Sciences (UAS), Bangalore, and the Agriculture Science Centre at Hassan have developed a new variety of maize seed that can be grown in any kind of land under rain-fed conditions. A field-day was conducted at Mallikarjunapura village in Belur taluk near Hassan on Monday to assess its functionality.

Welcoming farmers from Hassan, Belur and Alur taluk, Scientist Sashidhar said that the Maize NAC 6004 variety had been developed by the UAS and was of non-hybrid variety. This could be grown in any type of land in rain-fed areas. It is disease free and high yielding, he said and added that it had now been grown by 58 farmers in Hassan, Alur and Belur taluks. Lalitha, a scientist, further elaborated on the variety of seed to the farmers.
