BHUBANESWAR: Chairman of the Indian Oil Corporation Sarthak Behuria called on Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Monday to discuss about the implementation of the proposed petrochemicals complex at Paradip.

Mr. Behuria informed the Chief Minister that work on the petrochemicals will begin in April next year.

Ground levelling

The ground levelling work for the project was already on progress at Paradip, the IOC informed.

Mr. Behuria told Mr. Patnaik that the project would be commissioned by 2011-12. The project cost will go up to Rs. 26,000 crore, he said.

Displacement

Mr. Patnaik and Mr. Behuria also discussed about the displacement issues pertaining to the IOC oil depots in Rourkela and Sambalpur.

Talking to presspersons after the meeting, Mr. Behuria expressed hope that the State would consider IOC’s demand for exemption of sales tax for the proposed petrochemicals complex.

Among others who were present at the meeting include Industry Secretary Ashok Dalwai and Finance Secretary R.N. Senapati.
