TIRUPUR: Twenty-two-year-old Banu, an MCA graduate, till recently worked with a private firm. After marriage she is running a garment retail showroom for the last six months in Salem.

She is quite happy over the transformation though the investment was Rs. 3 lakh.

The Tirupur-based Royal Classic Group, which owns Classic Polo brand, gave her the opportunity. “The company takes care of all the infrastructure needs and maintenance. I paid the amount towards caution deposit, which is refundable. I earn around Rs.15,000 a month and it goes up to Rs. 25,000 during festival seasons.”

Encouraged by the response for its idea of handing over shops to service providers instead of appointing franchisees or going for own showrooms, the company plans to extend the model to all the southern States.

“We construct the showroom, do up the interiors and give stocks. We take care of everything including salespersons’ salary, electricity charges and all the day-to-day expenditure,” says R. Sivaram, executive director of the company.

The company gives 10 per cent of the turnover as commission to the service provider. “`The timings are flexible for homemakers. By paying a deposit of Rs. 2 lakh to Rs.5 lakh one could earn Rs. 20,000 to Rs. 50,000 a month based on the sales and investment,” he adds.

Women entrepreneurs are sincere and devote their time without any diversion. Another advantage is that entrepreneurs have a sense of ownership over the shop.

The Rs. 225-crore company, which introduced zero plus auto fit trousers, now has 50 showrooms and plans another 50 by March. “We have introduced the model recently and it is working well. In future, we will partner with more women entrepreneurs as service providers,” Mr. Sivaram added.
