MADURAI: The Apollo Hospital group’s first ‘chest pain clinic’ in the southern districts was opened at Tirunagar here on Sunday to provide the “golden hour” medical attention for cardiac attacks.

Providing round-the clock emergency care, a well-equipped ambulance and a trained medical team are the features of the clinic that came up as part of the corporate hospital’s plan to open 1,000 such centres across the country to mark its 25th year celebrations.

In Madurai, the Apollo Speciality Hospitals has entered in to a tie-up with Aditya Speciality Hospitals at Tirunagar, where persons rushed with chest pain or similar symptoms would be immediately attended to and then shifted to the main hospital in the city, if required.

Explaining the significance of the clinic, Rohini Sridhar, Director (Medical Services) of Apollo, said that the clinics were coming up in various places to handle emergency cases without any delay.

T.S. Anbu, Superintendent of Police, Madurai district, who inaugurated the clinic, said that first-aid was an integral part of saving a life and hence access to a hospital was crucial in case of heart attacks.

“The golden hour concept takes shape when equipped clinics are available in peripheral areas,” he said and added that it was important for heart attacks and road accidents also.

According to M.P. Balasundaram, Senior Administrator of Apollo Speciality Hospitals, a state-of-the-art ambulance and a trained emergency medical team would be there at the clinic.

He urged people not to ignore or neglect whenever there was a chest pain feeling.

The Chairman of Aditya Speciality Hospitals, B. Jeyakumar, in his address said that day and night services would be provided at the clinic and it was good partnership between the two hospitals.
