This Day That Age
Heavy monsoon rain lashed Madras city and its suburbs since November 3 causing dislocation of normal life and distress to hundreds of poor families living in low-lying areas. Train services on the North-East line of the Southern Railway were affected by flooding of the track between Madras and Ongole and while the incoming trains were held up at Gudur, outgoing trains from Madras Central in the Vijayawada direction were cancelled on November 4. Corporation authorities arranged shelter to people rendered homeless at a number of places in Corporation buildings. They also cut open the roads to drain the water in some of the worst affected areas.
