Arun finishes second

BANGALORE: M.S. Arun blanked veteran B.V.S. Murthy 4-0 in the play-off for the second spot at the completion of the senior State-ranking snooker super league (second leg) at the KSBA hall here on Monday.

The play off was warranted as both the players were tied for the second spot after two legs. Arun won 91-12, 72 (48)-26, 57-40, 70-27. Arun, along with Sajan Bopanna, will represent Karnataka in the snooker Nationals in Hyderabad next month. Earlier, Balaji Reddy downed Amit Bhushan 703-615 to win the second leg of the junior billiards.

Canara enters final

Canara Pre-University College (Mangalore) entered the final of the Ultra Tech Cup cricket tournament defeating Govindadasa PU College (Suratkal) by five wickets in the first semifinal at the NIT-K ground near Mangalore on Sunday.

The scores: Semifinal: Govindadasa 119 in 35 overs (Shivaraj 32, Prithviraj three for 12) lost to Canara 120 for five in 33.5 overs (Shamith 51).

Quarterfinal: Mahaveera 170 in 42 overs (Afzal 72, Hariprasad three for 17) lost to St. Aloysius 174 for four in 37.5 overs (Pranam 40 not out).

Easy for Queen Star

Queen Star trounced BEML (RC) 6-2 in the C division football league tie at the ITI grounds, Bangalore on Monday. Allen (2), Dileep (2), Kalai and Mahesh scored for the winner while Ramnath and Rudravelu scored for BEML (RC).

At the 515 Army Base Workshop ground, Minerva, put it across Vivekananda 2-0. Kishore (13th) and Udesh (39th) were the scorers.

CIL downs Postal

Controllerate of Inspection Electronics (CIL) overcame a stiff challenge from Postal 22-25, 25-19, 25-14, 25-18 in the State ‘A’ Division volleyball league in Bangalore.

Earlier, MEG made short work of BEL with a 25-18, 25-19, 25-18 verdict while BSNL put it across SAI at 22-25, 25-18, 25-22, 28-30, 15-11.
