To forego lunch tomorrow condemning attack
ARIYALUR: Tamil Nadu Judicial Officers’ Association, Chennai, has urged Bar Council of Tamil Nadu to initiate penal action against lawyers who had allegedly assaulted Metropolitan Magistrate V in Chennai recently.
A resolution adopted by the Association at its general body meeting held recently urged the Council to initiate legal action against the advocates “to maintain the reputation of Tamil Nadu Bar and judiciary”. It also thanked the Chief Justice of Madras High Court for taking ‘suo moto’ contempt action against the lawyers. While thanking the State Government for providing security to Metropolitan Magistrate V at office and residence, the meeting sought personal security officers for all judicial officers. By another resolution, the Association announced that all the judicial officers would forego lunch on November 6 and continue the sitting. The decision was taken ‘to show our moral support and solidarity’, the resolution said.
The meeting urged the President, the Prime Minister and the Chief Justice of India to constitute the ‘National Judicial Pay Commission’ without any delay. The meeting called for promotion for the entire 1995 batch of civil judges and the junior division officers to safeguard their career.
