ARIYALUR: Four persons were killed and 11 others injured when the lorry by which they were travelling, overturned near Marudhaiyar bridge on the outskirts of the town on Monday.
Police said that the incident happened when the tapioca-laden lorry was going from Orathanadu in Thanjavur district to Athur.
The deceased were identified as G. Pazhanisamy (29), P. Arjunan (30), S. Sanjaygandhi (25) and G. Subramani (37) all of Athur.
Of the injured, eight persons were admitted to the Government Hospital in Ariyalur and three others, treated as out-patients. The police have registered a case and are investigating.
