HYDERABAD: Hero Ultra electric two-wheelers were launched in the city market on Monday. No driving licence or RTA registration or even regular servicing is required for these vehicles which cost around Rs. 30,000 to Rs. 35,000. There are seven variants of which two have a capacity to carry an adult and a child while the others can carry only one adult. There is a variant is meant for children. Maximum speedThe higher end models give about 40-70 km per charge. They have to be charged for six to eight hours, consume one unit of electric power and have a maximum speed of 25 kmph. Joint ventureHero Ultra is a joint venture between Hero Exports Private Ltd, an affiliate of Hero Cycles Ltd, and UK-based Ultra Motor Company. Four showrooms were opened in the city at Digital Shoppy showrooms in Saroornagar, RTC Crossroads, M.G.Road and Ranigunj. Talking to presspersons here, deputy CEO of Hero Exports Gaurav Munjal said the company had rolled out these vehicles in eight States and they became popular in Gujarat and Rajasthan. He indicated that the company would make forays into dual-fuel and hybrid three-wheelers. Four-wheelersChairman of Ultra Motor Company Ian Woodcock said the company was test-driving its three-wheelers in Taiwan and India. He said his company had the technology even for four-wheelers. The three-wheelers could be in the range of Rs. 1.50 lakh and would have twin fuel option -- electric power and CNG.
