CHENNAI: The Tamil Nadu Government has informed the Madras High Court that a bullet-proof car was given to former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa on November 3.
An affidavit filed by Home Secretary S. Malathi in response to Ms. Jayalalithaa’s writ petition seeking Z Plus category security measures stated that the bullet-proof vehicle, along with a driver, was handed over to V. Kuppuraj, Inspector and Personal Security Officer of Ms. Jayalalithaa, under proper acknowledgment.
“This is proof enough of this Government’s commitment in providing security to Ms. Jayalalithaa, as per the Z Plus category with NSG cover,” the counter said.
Reiterating that an armed police guard of 2-plus-8 with two armed sentries was on duty round the clock at her residence, the Home Secretary said police teams were investigating the recent trespass. Several witnesses had been examined.
The official rejected Ms. Jayalalithaa’s allegation of “deep-rooted conspiracy with the connivance of policemen,” describing it as baseless and false. She said action would be taken against policemen concerned only if there was evidence of lapses in discharging their legitimate duties.
