CHENNAI: Police arrested two persons on charges of stealing credit cards from delivery staff of private courier companies and misusing them.
Following complaints from representatives of courier firms that bags containing the articles meant for delivery, carried by their staff, have gone missing in different localities, Commissioner of Police G. Nanchil Kumaran directed the Central Crime Branch police to register a case.
Investigation officers said when the delivery personnel went inside buildings to deliver articles, they left behind the bags in their two-wheelers outside.
On returning, the staff found a few packets, mainly containing credit card despatched by bankers, missing.
Based on the inputs, police laid a trap at a specific point and caught two persons when they were attempting to allegedly lift a bag from a shopping mall.
Interrogations revealed that G. Ravi (28) and G. Chockalingam (27) of Virugambakkam allegedly lifted the courier bags, picked out the credit card packets meant for delivery to the card holders and misused the cards.
