WINDOW SHOPPING: Participants in the State Women’s Athletic Festival at a bangle shop put up at the venue in Berhampur on Tuesday.

BERHAMPUR: A festive atmosphere and spirit of togetherness have kicked off worries of win and loss to the backseat at the State-level Women’s Sports Festival 2007 which is under way at the Berhampur stadium.

The mood of around 1.000 girl participants can be assessed from the rush at a bangle shop opened at the venue. Everyone is in a hurry to buy friendship band from the shop to make new friends. Even we are sharing bangles as remembrance, said Pushpanjali Muduli, member of Kho Kho team from Nayagarh district.

According to her, multi-event sports festival has provided scope to them to make friends from all parts of the State, who they may meet after a year. And this chance has come after a long break. The State-level event was not held after it was cancelled in 1999 due to super cyclone. The multi-event sports festival could be revived in 2007.

Reshma Suna of Nowrangpur said: “Who cares for winning and losing. We only want to enjoy this vast conglomeration of sportswomen of different parts whom we may be able to meet again next year at a similar event.” And shopping of small curios, dress material, bangles and cosmetics was the pass time of these girls when they did not have their events at the stadium.

Cultural show

At the large dining hall near the stadium they almost picnicked with their lunch plates in hand, joking and frolicking with one another. After the sporting events are over in the evening, the girls get together for an open for all cultural show at the same venue till they tire out to return back to their hostels.

To add to the festive spirit of these girls, Ganjam district administration organised a special trip for them to Gopalpur beach resort on Tuesday evening deploying over 15 buses.
