9X to hit the small screen on Monday

MEGA DRAMA: A still from Smriti Irani’s family saga “Mere Apne”, which will be aired on the new television channel “9X”.

A new Hindi television channel, “9X”, the flagship channel of INX Network, will go on air this Monday.

According to Indrani Mukerjea of INX Media, the channel will be a one-stop shop for fiction and non-fiction entertainment. “9X” will provide the best of Bollywood blockbusters and more. It will air dramas daily and the storylines will not necessarily resort to kitchen politics but provide something for everyone in the family.

A major highlight will be two of Ekta Kapoor’s drama series “Kahe Naa Kahe” and “Kya Dill Mein Hai” in which the channel will introduce two new young female leads Krystle D’Souza and Abigail.

Smriti Irani’s mega family drama “Mere Apne” will mark the television debut of Bollywood’s yesteryear superstar Vinod Khanna, who will essay the character of Kashinath Pandey. Besides Smriti, the star cast will include several other talented television artistes.

From November 19, prime time will get bigger on “9X” when the channel presents a romantic daily drama, “Jiya Jale”, produced by Siddhartha Basu. This will mark Siddhartha’s debut in the genre of fiction programming. “At heart,” Siddhartha says, “it’s an ongoing love story about parallel lives that somehow are forced into different directions and an absorbing family saga. It moves away from extreme characterisation, far-fetched plots and crude, high-pitched hysterics to an audio-visual style of story-telling which is more cinematic, warm, fluid yet richly dramatic. The look, sound, and feel of the show are distinctive and I am happy with the way it has shaped up.”
