A matter of attitude
The bigger lake on the city zoo premises plays host to a number of birds, especially migratory birds. Snake birds, cormorants, eagles and kites are a regular sight here. If properly maintained, this spot can be a bird watcher’s delight. The zoo authorities have, at best, an indifferent attitude to this lake. It is heavily polluted and covered with weeds. This not only mars the beauty of the lake but also poses problems to birds and to fish in the lake. Zoo officials
say that they do not have funds to clean the lake. But, some officials see this more as a problem of attitude. Either way, the losers are the thousands who visit the zoo. They, like the zoo’s animals, do not raise any collective demand for change.
