Two arrested in extortion cases

Lucknow: Two men involved in kidnapping and extortion cases were on Tuesday arrested by the special task force (STF) of Uttar Pradesh police from polytechnic crossing in Ghazipur police circle here.

Sharif Diwan of Bihar and Tamzir Alam were arrested on a tip off, STF DSP S Anand told reporters here.

Diwan was allegedly involved in kidnapping of one Gaurav Dwivedi from Varanasi in April and after being arrested, managed to flee from judicial custody on August 20, he said.

A number of cases were pending against the two.
