Kakinada: The marine police station special team, headed by Sub-Inspector Y.R.K. Srinivas has nabbed a six- member gang involved in pilferage and smuggling of rice from the port area and seized rice valued at Rs. 2.70 lakhs from them.
A lorry used for the clandestine transportation of the stolen rice was also seized.
Sub-divisional police officer S. Surya Rao told newsmen here on Tuesday that all the six accused persons were arrested and remanded to judicial custody. Those arrested were: Ryali Prakash, Resu Nagesh, Alagara Sattibabu, Attili Ranga swamy, Sangada Prakash and Battula Apparao. Another accused person Karri Suribabu is at large.
Four others involved in the rice smuggling were already arrested. He said the SI and the constables would be duly rewarded.
