Bangalore: The electricity regulatory commissions of all the four southern States have come together to form the Southern Electricity Regulators Forum. Announcing this here on Tuesday, K.P. Pandey, Chairman, Karnataka Electricity Regulatory Commission (KERC), said that the forum was formed with an objective of meeting periodically and discussing the issues affecting the four States and take a common view on them. Mr. Pandey said that during the meeting held on Tuesday, members of the four commissions had discussed various common issues, such as formation of a common electricity market for South India, cross subsidy surcharge for Open Access system, load shedding and controlling transmission and distribution losses. He also said that the meeting discussed position of power sector of the State, promoting non-conventional sources of energy and common wheeling charge. “The priority for all the commissions is going to be harnessing green power. We are all trying to learn from each other and emulate the good things,” he said. He said that surplus power generated through non-conventional means could be sold to other States.
