GULBARGA: The North Eastern Karnataka Teachers’ Forum has appealed to Governor Rameshwar Thakur to implement the pay-scale recommended by the Fifth Pay Commission for teachers in government and government-aided primary and high schools and pre-university colleges. In a memorandum to the Governor, a copy which was released to the press here on Tuesday, working president of the forum M.B. Ambalagi stated that the recommendations of the commission pertaining to pay-scale for teachers had not been implemented. Interim relief
When this was pointed out, the former Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy initially agreed to pay Rs. 200 as interim relief and promised to implement the recommendations by November. However, no government order was issued to this effect. Though the Fifth Pay Commission fixed the pay-scale of primary school teachers between Rs. 6,800 and Rs. 13,000, they were, at present, drawing between Rs. 6250 and Rs. 12,000. Similarly, the pay-scale for high schools teachers and pre-university college teachers had been at Rs. 9500-Rs. 17,500 and Rs. 13,000-Rs. 23,850 respectively. However, the high school teachers were now drawing between Rs. 8825 and Rs. 16,000 and pre-university college teachers were drawing between Rs. 11,400 and Rs. 21,600, Mr. Ambalagi added.
