Kulkarni, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Agricultural Sciences, Dharwad, inaugurating a two-day seminar on ‘Recent developments in Biotechnology and Microbiology’ in Dharwad on Tuesday. DHARWAD: J.H. Kulkarni, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Agricultural Sciences, Dharwad, has stressed the need for giving more importance to life sciences. He was inaugurating a two-day seminar on “Recent developments in Biotechnology and Microbiology” organised by the Department of Biotechnology and Microbiology, Karnatak University, here on Tuesday. Although the “Green Revolution had brought about improvement in food productivity, there was still a need for further improvement, he said. Biotechnology was a tool that would improve the capabilities of any organism in the production of antibiotics and vaccines. Presiding over the function, B.B. Kaliwal, chairman of the department, said that the seminar was aimed at providing an inter-disciplinary forum for presenting new approaches from relevant areas of biosciences such as biotechnology and microbiology.
