DAVANGERE: The Davangere Agriculture Produce Marketing Committee (APMC) has collected a market cess of Rs. 1, 66, 43,487 from April to October 2007, compared to Rs. 1, 52, 92,494 during last year for the same period. Speaking to presspersons here on Tuesday, president of the Davangere APMC Kolenahalli Sathish and vice-president Nagaraj said that an excess amount of Rs. 1,35,0993 had been collected compared to the previous year and added that this was owing to the fact that the APMC had streamlined its collection process. Mr. Sathish urged Deputy Commissioner of the district M.B. Dyaberi to set up maize procurement centres at Mayakonda and Anagi as many farmers there had grown maize in large quantities. Similarly, the APMC president has demanded that the Government enhance the ceiling amount on maize procurement and added that at present it had allowed purchase of a maximum of 100 quintals per farmer. He also said that most farmers had more than five acres of land on which they had got a better yield this time. Owing to this, the ceiling amount on purchase of maize should be enhanced, he said. He also said that the APMC had allotted a shop to the vanilla growers’ association at the APMC yard.
