Held for bid to smuggle rectified spirit

Staff Reporter

PUDUCHERRY: Three persons involved in the illegal trade of rectified spirit were arrested and the vehicle used to transport the consignment was impounded on Monday.

The arrests were made and the rectified spirit was seized after two beat constables noticed a vehicle parked at a secluded place in Anna Nagar. While constable Manjini was questioning the driver , his colleague Natarajan managed to enter the vehicle to check the consignment. Sensing trouble, the driver pushed aside Manjini and drove away while Natarajan was still inside the vehicle.

Immediately, Manjini alerted the Reddiarpalayam Police Station about the incident . After two hours, the mini-truck along with two escort vehicles was traced at Pitchaveeranpet.

The arrested were R. Selvam of Reddiarpalayam, D. Murugan of Sengadu in Villupuram and Gopaldoss of Kalmedupet in Puducherry. Police also seized around 1,800 litres of rectified spirit.
