Join hands, save Karipur Airport, says INL

Staff Reporter

More than 1,000 activists march to airport

KARIPUR: The Indian National League (INL) has called for a joint agitation to save Calicut International Airport from the alleged neglect it has been facing. The party also offered to take the initiative for a joint agitation to end the neglect.

More than 1,000 INL activists, who marched to the airport on Tuesday in protest against frequent cancellations of flights and the inconveniences faced by the passengers, warned the airlines and the authorities of serious consequences if they continued their attitude to Malabar’s passengers.

Inaugurating the march, INL State president S.A. Puthiyavalappil said that the party would stand for the cause of the people. The protesters were particularly critical of the national carrier Air-India.

Among the demands the INL raised were introduction of foreign carriers from Karipur and better treatment of the passengers by Air-India.

INL activists from Kozhikode and Malappuram districts took part in the march. P.M.A. Salam, MLA; National Youth League (NYL) all-India president Siraj Ibrahim Sait; INL State treasurer N.A. Nellikunnu; and State secretary Ahamed Devarkovil spoke.

INL State secretary A.P. Abdul Wahab welcomed the gathering. NYL State vice-president Pulikkal Moideen Kutty proposed a vote of thanks. The march started from Kolathur junction and was stopped by the police at the airport junction. INL State vice- president N.V.A. Majeed; State secretary James Kanhirathingal; State secretary M.A. Majeed, and Kozhikode district secretary Abdullah Yousuf led the march.
