Official slaps fake cases on toddy tappers
Rs. 30,000 demanded for renewal of licence

Sangareddy: Toddy tappers staged a dharna in front of the district excise superintendent’s office on Tuesday while Joint Commissioner Devendra Prasad was holding a departmental inquiry into the alleged corrupt practices of the superintendent.
The Joint Commissioner was looking into the allegations of the toddy tappers that A. Ramulu, the superintendent has been demanding bribes for renewal of toddy tapper licences.
N. Asanna Goud, president of the Association told the reporters that the superintendent has been intentionally delaying the process of renewal and demanding bribes.
He demanded the JC to lift all the fake cases slapped by Ramulu on the poor toddy tappers who refused to comply with his demands.
Asanna pointed out that the excise staff which has to renew a licence for a mere Rs. 150 has been charging up to Rs 30,000 per licence.
Devendra Prasad and Assistant Commissioner B. Mohanlal, who were inquiring into the allegations particularly from the toddy tappers of Narayankhed mandal told The Hindu that they would submit a report on the allegations on Ramulu to the Excise Commissioner.
They also assured the affected tappers that their licences would be renewed soon.
